A Mount education isn’t just about your intellect; it's about your soul.  The courses in our core curriculum will provide you with a thorough liberal arts education, even while you choose and pursue a major tied to a chosen field.  This combination of "core" preparation and training in a specific discipline provides just the right recipe for academic and professional success.  At Mount St. Mary's, we are attentive to your development as a human being and as a citizen of this country, even while we do our best to prepare you with the skills and attitudes you will need in the workplace.

"What do I love about the Mount? Nuclear fusion. It’s not as crazy as it sounds. Hydrogen atoms, among the smallest structures in the physical universe, when bound together unleash nearly inconceivable energy and light of the sun. The Mount is like this—we take the basic elements of talented, determined students, a superb faculty, and a stunning campus, bind them together in harmony with the forces of collegiality, academic excellence, intellectual challenge, commitment to faith, and human compassion, thereby releasing a force which helps to illuminate the world with enormous power and purpose. The realization that I’m privileged to be a part of such a successful and exciting dynamic is what renews MY energy every day."

— Andy Rosenfeld, chair, visual and performing arts department

"Studying the liberal arts is not just about learning basic facts or getting a ‘general education.’ It’s partly about developing habits of mind: judgment, self-knowledge, insight, analysis. But it’s also more than training in critical thinking. A true liberal education instills wisdom and enlightens the moral imagination. This is especially important today: the dynamism of modern culture will place a premium on minds capable of steady comprehension and sound evaluation."

— Joshua Hochschild, dean, college of liberal arts

“I love the intense interaction with students—Mount students expect their professors to be available outside of the classroom and to be part of their lives. Living up to this expectation is one of my greatest joys as a professor at the Mount. To watch the growth of a student academically, athletically and spiritually is something I truly cherish.”

— Karl W. Einolf, associate professor of business, accounting and economics

over 200 years of Catholic tradition.

The Mount is the perfect place to discover what role God plays in your life. For over 200 years, Mount St. Mary’s University has been teaching students to live as educated and virtuous citizens. Our vibrant spiritual community assists everyone—students, faculty, staff, and alumni—along his or her journey of faith. And nearly everywhere you turn on this campus, you’ll hear—and take part in—a dialogue about social justice and the search for higher meaning. Through our core curriculum, campus ministry and service organizations, community-based service projects woven into classes, retreats, and campus activities, the Mount community experiences the intersection of faith and culture in our Catholic liberal arts tradition.

We are so strong in our Catholic faith that we manifest a deep respect for others of different faiths and treat all members with dignity. At the Mount, we join together to explore faith, discovery, leadership, and community every day.
